United States Merchant Marine Academy

Wes Stearns ’93 was a four-year letterwinner in football and proved to be one of the best running backs to play for the Academy. He currently holds the career record for rushing yards (3,982) and carries (767). Stearns has a long list of honors that he accumulated in his years at Kings Point. He was awarded the Andrew E. Gibson Award four times, Homecoming MVP twice, Team MVP twice, Liberty Conference First Team (‘89), Liberty Conference Second Team (’90) and Freedom Football Conference First Team (’91, ’92). In addition, he was also named Freedom Football Conference Player of the Year, ECAC Division III Player of the Year and Champion All-American Third Team in his senior season. In his four-year career at USMMA, the football team finished with a 21-14-2 overall record and an ECAC Southwest Championship.
