Anthony (Jacobs) Giacobbe ’98 was a three-year starter on the offensive line for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Football Team. Jacobs earned multiple All-Region and All-Freedom Conference honors throughout his career, and after his First Class season was selected as an All-American by three different outlets, including earning First Team accolades on the Burger King (AFCA) 1997 Division III All-America Team showcased in Sports Illustrated magazine. He was a member of a very elite, exclusive team of eight players in the nation who were awarded the Colonel Earl Blaik All-American Football Foundation Leadership Award in 1997 (with six winners from Division I including future NFL quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Brian Griese, and two from Division III). Jacobs was the first Mariner to represent Kings Point at the Annual Aztec Bowl featuring Division III All-Americans against a Division I All-Mexico Team.
