John Tompkins ’65 was a four-year starter for the Academy’s basketball team and served as the team captain during his junior and senior seasons. He was the MVP and leading scorer during his sophomore and senior years and helped lead the team to the USMMA’s best record in history at the time (10-7) during the 1964-65 season. Tompkins was selected to the All-Long Island First Team and All-ECAC Small College Team after his senior season, which helped land him a professional tryout with the New York Knicks. Tompkins was on the baseball team his Plebe year and captain of the golf team and varsity club president his senior year. He also received the Alumni "Esprit De Corps" Award in 1965.
