Richard “Rick” Barry ’68 was the recipient of the 1967 Naval Academy Scholar Athlete Award and the 1968 Admiral Giles C. Stedman Trophy as the Academy’s top graduating student athlete. He played three years of varsity football, two years of baseball and also ran indoor track. Barry was a starter on both sides of the ball during his Plebe season, before switching to offense full time. He graduated as the Academy’s career leader in pass receiving yards. Barry helped lead the Mariners to four-straight Boardwalk Bowl Championships. On the baseball diamond, he was the Mariners’ starting centerfielder, leading the team in stolen bases and runs scored as a freshman leadoff hitter.
