Frank Dore ’07 stepped onto the football field for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 2002 and immediately made a significant impact, winning Freedom Football Conference Defensive Rookie of the Year. As a sophomore, the defensive back continued to rack up accolades; he was named to the Freedom Football Conference Weekly Honor Roll four times over the course of the season and earned NCAA Division III National Defensive Player of the Week honors from Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette. Dore was named Freedom Defensive Player of the Year, USMMA Most Valuable Player and a First Team All-Freedom Defense selection for racking up 89 total tackles with 60 solo take-downs and two interceptions. After suffering an injury in 2004, Dore returned to the field in 2005 and won USMMA Defensive Player of the Year honors while also making it to the First Team All-Defense for the Liberty League. In his final season, Dore led the team in tackles and points by the defense and was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week by both the Liberty League and the ECAC. He earned the USMMA Most Valuable Player Award for the second time in his career and claimed the Admiral Giles C. Stedman Trophy in his final season of competition.
