United States Merchant Marine Academy

Dean Rasmussen was a three-year member and team captain of the Kings Point varsity track and field team. He also earned three letters with the Mariners' cross-country program. During his time at the Academy, Dean took first place at the AAU National Championship in three events. He garnered accolades as a three-time AAU All­ American in Track and Field after earning recognition in three separate events, the 15 Kilo Walk (1964), the 25 Kilo Walk (1964), and the 35 Kilo Walk (1965). His specialty was race walking,an event in which Dean held Academy records in the One and Two-mile Walks and the 10, 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 Kilo walks.  His most memorable ones were the 15 and 25 Kilo Walk in 1964 andthe 35 Kilo Walk in 1965.
