In football, he played the entire length of every game but two during his senior season. He scored seven touchdowns in his career while holding Yale Bowl records for the longest pass play (75 yards) from scrimmage and longest interception return (78 yards). The best game of his career came against Hofstra when he finished with 127 rushing yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns. On the baseball diamond, McGuire finished with a .265 batting average playing first and second base during his junior and senior years for the Mariners.
