Hall of Fame
Robert Wernersbach served as the head coach of the Kings Point men’s soccer team for nine seasons from 1970 until 1978. He garnered Metropolitan Conference Coach of the Year honors three times after leading the Mariners to the Met Championships in 1973, 1975 and 1978. Wernersbach was responsible for turning around a program that won just two games during his first season into an established powerhouse in the Metropolitan Conference. This included a 12-win campaign in 1973, which earned the Mariners a bid to the NCAA National Tournament for the first in academy history. Wernersbach’s 1973 squad, which was enshrined in the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2020, began an unbeaten streak of 23-straight games that lasted into 1974. The 1975 and 1978 seasons also resulted in postseason bids to the regional ECAC Tournament, with the 1975 Mariners winning the ECAC Metro New York Championship. Coach Wernersbach finished his Kings Point career with 66 victories, which ranks third all-time in program history at the time of his induction.
