Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. (April 25, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a 4-3 triumph on the road against conference foe Purchase on Friday night. The victory clinches the #1 overall seed for USMMA in the upcoming Skyline Championship Tournament next week. The Mariners improved to 8-3 (6-1 Skyline), while the Panthers dropped to 8-4 (4-3 Skyline).

Patrick Novotny (Fort Worth, Texas) earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory at #3 singles, while freshman
Fredrich Buquel (Mission, Texas) was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at #4 singles to help lead the Mariners.
Sophomore
Josh Staroselskiy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win at #6 singles and teamed with classmate
Brent Mathews (Falls Church, Va.) to notch a 6-0 win at #2 doubles.
The duo of Buquel and fellow freshman
Aaron Zhao (Temple City, Calif.), meanwhile, added a 6-3 triumph at #3 doubles.
Merchant Marine will face Purchase once again this coming Monday, April 28, when the #1 seed Mariners host the Skyline Semifinals at the Brooks Stadium Courts. First serve of doubles action is scheduled for 4 p.m.
