KINGS POINT, N.Y. (May 2, 2025) – The top-seeded U.S. Merchant Marine Academy tennis team was defeated by second-seeded Farmingdale State, 4-2, in the Skyline Championship Finals on Friday at the Brooks Stadium Courts. USMMA dropped to 9-4, while Farmingdale State took home its third-straight conference championship and improved to 16-3.

The Rams grabbed a 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point with a 6-1 triumph in the top flight and a 6-4 victory in the second flight.

Brent Mathews (Falls Church, Va.) leveled the match at 2-2 with a 7-5, 6-4 victory at #1 singles.

The Rams retook the lead with a win at #5 singles before clinching the championship with a win at #3 singles. Sophomore
Patrick Novotny (Fort Worth, Texas) won the first set in the third flight, but was ultimately defeated 6-4, 3-6, 4-6.
