KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 23, 2025) – The USMMA men's tennis team defeated the two-time reigning Skyline Conference Champion Farmingdale State Rams, 5-2, at home on Wednesday at the Brooks Stadium Courts. The victory was the Mariners' fifth-straight, as their record moves to 7-3 (5-1), and they handed FSC its first loss to a Skyline opponent since the 2023 season.

Merchant Marine captured the doubles point with victories at #2 and #3. Sophomores
Brent Mathews (Falls Church, Va.) and
Josh Staroselskiy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) claimed a 6-2 win at #2 before freshmen
Fredrich Buquel (Mission, Texas) and
Aaron Zhao (Temple City, Calif.) finished at #3, downing their opponents, 6-3. The Rams won at #1, 6-4.

In singles action, Buquel won via a retirement by his counterpart from Farmingdale at #4 to give the Mariners a 2-0 lead. Sophomore
Patrick Novotny (Fort Worth, Texas) was next to finish, triumphing 6-3, 6-3, to put the Mariners on the cusp of the team victory.

After the top-flight went in favor of FSC, a comeback three-set win (0-6, 6-2, 6-3) by senior
Connor McQuade (Jacksonville, Fla.) at #5 sealed the W for USMMA. Staroselskiy added another point for good measure for the Mariners with his 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6), victory at #6.

The Mariners close out the regular season on Saturday, April 26, up at Purchase College. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
