KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 29, 2025) – The top-seeded U.S. Merchant Marine Academy tennis team advanced to the Skyline Championship Finals after defeating fourth-seeded Purchase, 4-2, in a semifinal match on Tuesday at the Brooks Stadium Courts. USMMA improved to 9-3 with the victory, while Purchase ends its season 8-5.

Sophomore
Patrick Novotny (Fort Worth, Texas) notched a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at #3 singles and freshman
Fredrich Buquel (Mission, Texas) earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory at #4 singles to help lead the Mariners. The duo also paired up to secure a 6-1 win at #3 doubles.

Senior
Connor McQuade (Jacksonville, Fla.) added a 6-4, 6-0 victory at #5 singles, while sophomores
Josh Staroselskiy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and
Brent Mathews (Falls Church, Va.) were victorious by a 6-4 score at #2 doubles.

Staroselskiy also held a 6-2 lead at #6 singles when the Mariners clinched the match.

The Mariners host second-seeded Farmingdale State in the Skyline Finals at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 2.
