Women’s Swim & Dive Celebrates Senior Day Before USMMA Memorial Invite

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 1, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's swim & dive team celebrated Senior Day prior to the 2025 USMMA Memorial Invitational on Saturday inside the Sue Petersen Lubow Pool. There were no team scores kept at the event, but the Mariners had a number of top-three finishes and season- and-personal best results on the day.
 
Meet Links Freshman Megan Hu (Syosset, N.Y.) accounted for both of Merchant Marine's first-place finishes on the day, as she touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.50) and the 200 breast (2:30.78). She was also the third leg of the 200 medley relay team that came in second place to start the day with a time of 1:54.58, while also placing second individually in the 500 freestyle in 5:27.35, a season-best time by three seconds.
 
Hu was joined on the 200 MR team by freshman Georgia Magditch (Allentown, Pa.), senior Haley Agin (Roswell, Ga.) and junior Jessica Felske (East Troy, Wis.).
 
Senior Laura Sherrill (Ketchikan, Alaska) came in second place in the 200 individual medley in 2:20.15, a season-best time by three seconds, while sophomore Isabel Lunsford (Burnet, Texas) placed second in the 100 free (56.02) and third in the 200 free (2:03.64).
 
Rounding out the Mariners' top-three finishes were Felske coming in third in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.13) and Agin placing third in the 50 free (25.92, a season-best time by 0.06).
 
Additional season- and personal-best efforts were put forth by the following swimmers. 
  • Sophomore Abigail Cayton (Houston, Texas) with a season-best in the 100 backstroke (1:15.35) and the 200 butterfly (2:47.69)
  • Sherrill with a personal-best in the 100 back (1:05.69)
  • Sophomore Kayleigh Rogers (Kodiak, Alaska) with a season-best by 0.42 seconds in the 50 free (27.50)
  • Freshman Rylie Larkin (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) with a season-best by 0.03 seconds in the 200 backstroke (2:33.22)
  • and Agin with a personal-best in the 400 individual medley (5:38.11) and a season-best in the 200 breast (2:47.59) 
The "Mariner of the Meet" honor, awarded based on a team vote to an individual for their performance and contribution to the team, went to junior Giana Leoni (Arvada, Colo.).
 
The Mariners now have just under two weeks to train for the 2025 New Jersey Athletics Conference (NJAC) Championship Meet, which will be held Thursday, Feb. 13 to Sunday, Feb. 16 down at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Va.
