Women’s Swimming & Diving Loses To Coast Guard On The Road

NEW LONDON, Conn. (Jan. 18, 2025) – The USMMA women's swimming & diving team was defeated on the road up at arch-rival Coast Guard 208.5-81.5 on Saturday at the Bears' Roland Pool. The loss drops the Mariners' record to 7-3, while CGA improves to 10-1-1 in victory.
 
Meet Link Sophomore Victoria Crofford (Fairfax, Va.) won the three-meter dive event for the lone first-place nine-point capture of the day for Merchant Marine. She also came in second place in the one-meter discipline. Freshman Sydney Greene (Porter Ranch, Calif.) also had a second-place showing, hers coming in the three-meter dive.
 
Sophomore Isabel Lunsford (Burnet, Texas) placed second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.57 and freshman Megan Hu (Syosset, N.Y.) came in second in both the 200 breaststroke in 2:30.89 (a season-best by two seconds) and the 200 individual medley in 2:14.74 (a season-best by one second).
 
Lunsford was also a part of the 400 free relay team that came in second in 3:52.57 along with seniors Haley Agin (Roswell, Ga.) and Laura Sherrill (Ketchikan, Alaska) and junior Jessica Felske (East Troy, Wis.).
 
Freshman Molly O'Brien (Social Circle, Ga.) set a new personal-best in the 50 free with a time of 27.94.
 
In addition to Hu's two season-best performances, six other Mariners produced dual-meet season-best times on the afternoon. They are listed below.
  • Senior Morgan Falanga (West Haven, Conn.) in both the 1000 free by five seconds (13:10.96) and the 500 free (6:22.05)
  • Junior Emma Frank (Highland, Md.) in the 1000 free by 19 seconds (13:50.43)
  • Sophomore Kayleigh Rogers (Kodiak, Alaska) in the 100 backstroke by four seconds (1:12.85)
  • Agin in the 100 free (57.47)
  • Sophomore Catherine Kennedy (Columbus, Ga.) in the 100 butterfly by 1.5 seconds (1:05.11)
  • Sophomore Abigail Cayton (Houston, Texas) in the 100 fly by three seconds (1:15.66)
  • And Sherrill in the 200IM (2:23.63) 
The "Mariner of the Meet" honor, awarded based on a team vote to an individual for their performance and contribution to the team, went to Falanga.
