Seven Mariners PR And Nine Score To Lead Merchant Marine To Eight-Place Finish At NJAC Championships

HAMPTON, Va. (Feb. 16, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's swimming & diving team closed out the four-day NJAC Championship Meet on Sunday at the Hampton Aquaplex in Virginia. The Mariners came in eighth place at the event, as eight different individuals help attain a team score of 376 points.
 
Meet Link USMMA posted a total of seven top-10 finishes at the event. 
  • Sophomore Victoria Crofford (Fairfax, Va.) placed seventh in the three-meter dive with a score of 206.70, while also placing ninth in the one-meter dive (174.90)
  • The 200 freestyle relay team of senior Haley Agin (Roswell, Ga.), junior Jessica Felske (East Troy, Wis.), sophomore Isabel Lunsford (Burnet, Texas) and senior Laura Sherrill (Ketchikan, Alaska) came in seventh in 1:39.22.
  • The 800 free relay team of Lunsford, freshman Georgia Magditch (Allentown, Pa.), Sherrill and freshman Molly O'Brien (Social Circle, Ga.) finished eighth in 8:12.78.
  • The 200 medley relay team of Magditch, Felske, Sherrill and Agin placed eighth in 1:49.78
  • The 400 free relay team of Lunsford, Agin, Felske and Sherrill came in eighth in 3:39.93
  • And the 400 medley relay team of Magditch, Felske, Agin and Lunsford finished ninth in 4:05.18 
Additionally, 15 other individual performances ranked in the top-24. 
  • Felske placed 12th in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.90), 16th in the 200 breast (2:30.53) and 22nd in the 50 free (25.19)
  • Lunsford came in 14th in both the 200 free (1:57.71) and the 100 free (53.88)
  • Sherrill finished 15th in the 100 butterfly (1:00.50) and 16th in the 200 individual medley (2:17.11)
  • Agin came in 16th in both the 50 free (25.22) and the 100 free (54.73) and also 24th in the 100 fly (1:02.32)
  • Magditch placed 19th in the 200 backstroke (2:11.52), 22nd in the 400IM (4:49.14) and 24th in the 200IM (2:14.90)
  • Sophomore Kayleigh Rogers (Kodiak, Alaska) finished 22nd in the 100 beast (1:09.10)
  • And freshman Rylie Larkin (Ponte Verda, Fla.) came in 24th in the 200 fly (2:28.01) 
The "Mariner of the Meet" honors, awarded based on a team vote to an individual for their performance and contribution to the team, went to Felske.
 
Up next for the Mariners is the two-day NYU Winter Invitational this coming Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21-22. Prelims will take place beginning at 10 a.m., while finals will be held at 5 p.m. on both days at the Palladium Athletic Facility on the campus of New York University in Manhattan.
