Women’s Swim & Dive Drops Home Meet To Scranton On Thursday

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 9, 2025) – On Thursday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's swimming & diving team lost its home dual meet to the University of Scranton, 181-119, at the Sue Petersen Lubow Pool. The setback dropped the Mariners' record to 5-2 on the season, while the Royals improve to 4-3.
 
Meet Link  Freshman Megan Hu (Syosset, N.Y.) won all three individual events she competed in, touching first in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.54), the 200 breast (2:32.01 – a season-best time) and the 200 individual medley (2:16.39).
 
Freshman Georgia Magditch (Allentown, Pa.) recorded two victories in the 100 backstroke (1:03.45) and the 200 back (2:17.51).
 
Senior Haley Agin (Roswell, Ga.) and sophomore Isabel Lunsford (Burnet, Texas) both picked up a win each, as Agin touched first in the 50 freestyle (26.27) and Lunsford won the 200 free with a time of 2:01.47.
 
The following Mariners recorded season-best times.
  • Freshman Haley Martin (Murrieta, Calif.) twice in the 200 free (2:04.57 – by two seconds) and the 50 free (26.93)
  • Freshman Rylie Larkin (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) in the 200 butterfly (1:08.24 – by two seconds)
  • Junior Giana Leoni (Arvada, Colo.) in the 100 free (1:08.96)
  • And Agin in the 100 fly (1:05.50)
The "Mariner of the Meet" honor, awarded based on a team vote to an individual for their performance and contribution to the team, went to Lunsford.
 
Merchant Marine is back in action next Wednesday, Jan. 15, when they host Skyline opponents Purchase and St. Joseph's-Long Island for a tri-meet beginning at 6 p.m. at the Sue Petersen Lubow Pool.
