Women’s Swim Downs A Pair Of CUNYAC Schools On Tuesday

NEW YORK (Jan. 7, 2025) – On Tuesday night, the USMMA women's swimming team traveled into Manhattan to face both John Jay College and Hunter College in a tri-meet hosted by John Jay. The Mariners came out on top of both CUNYAC schools by identical scores of 100-21 to improve their record to 5-1 on the season.
 
Meet Links Senior Haley Agin (Roswell, Ga.) and freshman Megan Hu (Syosset, N.Y.) both recorded a team-best three victories on the night. Agin touched first in the 50 freestyle (26.23), the 100 free (57.68) and the 100 butterfly (1:05.50 – a season-best by two seconds). Hu was victorious in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.64), the 200 breast (2:32.51) and the 200 individual medley (2:15.29 – a season-best by one second).
 
Sophomore Isabel Lunsford (Burnet, Texas) came in first place in two events – the 200 free (2:02.98) and the 500 free (5:40.38).
 
Three other Mariners earned one win apiece – senior Morgan Falanga (West Haven, Conn.) in the 1000 free (13:15.17 – a season-best by one minute and 26 seconds), sophomore Catherine Kennedy (Columbus, Ga.) in the 200 fly (2:32.08) and freshman Haley Martin (Murrieta, Calif.) in the 200 backstroke (2:25.19).
 
Other notable swims came from freshman Molly O'Brien (Social Circle, Ga.), who had a personal-best in the 200 breast with a time of 2:56.85, junior Delaney Cantlon (Burke, Va.) with a season-best by three seconds in the 100 free (1:02.55), freshman Rylie Larkin (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) with a season-best by three seconds in the 200 back (2:33.28) and senior Laura Sherrill (Ketchikan, Alaska) with a season-best by one second in the 200 IM (2:23.67).
 
The 200 medley relay team of Larkin, junior Giana Leoni (Arvada, Colo.), sophomore Kayleigh Rogers (Kodiak, Alaska) and Cantlon started off the meet with a victory in 2:13.59.
 
The Mariner of the Meet, awarded based on a team vote to an individual for their performance and contribution to the team, was sophomore Abigail Cayton (Houston, Texas).
 
Up next, the Mariners host Scranton this Thursday, Jan. 9. The start time of the meet was moved up in the day. It will now begin at 3 p.m. at the Sue Petersen Lubow Pool.
