Mariners Sail Past Purchase & St. Joseph’s-L.I. In Home Skyline Tri

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 15, 2025) – The USMMA women's swimming & diving team took care of business against visiting Purchase and St. Joseph's-Long Island on Wednesday night in a home Skyline Conference tri-meet, defeating the Panthers, 184-46, and the Golden Eagles, 170-67. The victories improve the Mariners' record to 7-2 (5-0 Skyline).
 
Meet Links Senior Laura Sherrill (Ketchikan, Alaska) won three events on the night, as she touched first in the 200 butterfly (2:35.41), the 200 breaststroke (2:43.30) and the 100 fly (1:05.21).
 
Freshman Megan Hu (Syosset, N.Y.), junior Jessica Felske (East Troy, Wis.), freshman Rylie Larkin (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and sophomore Abigail Cayton (Houston, Texas) started the night by winning the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:01.18.
 
Two Mariners earned a pair of individual victories each, as sophomore Isabel Lunsford (Burnet, Texas) won the 100 backstroke (1:11.61) and the 100 free (55.16, a season-best time) and classmate Victoria Crofford (Fairfax, Va.) finished first in both the one-meter dive (123.30) and the three-meter dive (168.38).
 
Senior Haley Agin (Roswell, Ga.) won the 200 free in a personal best time of 2:11.81 and also had a PR in the 200 breast (2:48.49).
 
Also picking up wins on the night were freshman Georgia Magditch (Allentown, Pa.) in the 1000 free (12:04.80), Larkin in the 50 free (28.11), Hu in the 200 back (2:15.21) and freshman Haley Martin (Murrieta, Calif.) in the 500 free (5:44.92).
 
Ending the night, the 200 freestyle relay team of Felske, Hu, Magditch and Agin was victorious in 1:47.75.
 
The "Mariner of the Meet" honor, awarded based on a team vote to an individual for their performance and contribution to the team, went to Agin.
 
Merchant Marine now prepares to take on arch-rival Coast Guard this coming Saturday, Jan. 18, up in New London, Conn. Diving action gets underway at 12-noon and swimming starts at 1 p.m. at the Bears' Roland Pool.
