12/7/2024 11:46:00 PM

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 7, 2024) – The USMMA women's swimming & diving team lost its meet against Stevens Institute on Saturday, 121-106, at the Sue Petersen Lubow Pool. Merchant Marine falls to 3-1 on the season, while the Ducks improve to 3-3 in victory.

The Mariners were trailing by just six points going into the final event of the meet, however a victory by Stevens in the 200 freestyle relay clinched the win for the visitors.

Meet Link Three Mariners earned multiple victories on the day. Sophomore Isabel Lunsford (Burnet, Texas) was victorious in the 200 free in 2:01.22 and the 500 free in 5:28.09. Freshman Megan Hu (Syosset, N.Y.) beat her season-best times by one second after touching first in both the 100 butterfly (1:01.41) and the 100 breaststroke (1:08.86). And sophomore Victoria Crofford (Fairfax, Va.) won both the one- (127.20) and three-meter (123.52) diving events.

Senior Haley Agin (Roswell, Ga.) also recorded a win for the Mariners, as she triumphed in the 50 free with a time of 26.49.

Other season-bests of note came from freshman Haley Martin (Murrieta, Calif.) in the 200 free (2:06.63) and freshman Rylie Larkin (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) by 1.5 seconds in the 100 fly (1:07.98).

Lunsford, who was celebrating her birthday, was named the "Mariner of the Meet," awarded based on a team vote to an individual for their performance and contribution to the team.

The Mariners now have a break from competition for the remainder of the calendar year and will pick back up in 2025 with a road tri-meet on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at John Jay against the host Bloodhounds and Hunter College. Action is set to get underway at 6 p.m.
