FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (April 27, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's track & field finished second at the 2025 Skyline Conference Championship on Sunday. Senior Alex Burita (Annandale, Va.) received one of the major awards at the event, earning Skyline Track Athlete of the Year.

Burita led the way for the Blue and Gray at the event with three top 5 finishes and one top 10. He finished second in the 800m and 1500m with times of 2:06.26 and 4:27.15 while finishing third in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a new personal best of 10:42.52. He also finished sixth in the 5000m with a time of 17:46.19.
 
Junior Ben Anastasoff (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) and sophomore Pierce Murray (Meridian, Idaho) both recorded top 5 finishes in the 5000m. Anastasoff was the Mariner's fastest runner in the event, crossing the finish line in second with a time of 16:57.74, while Murray came across in fourth with a time of 17:33.81. Freshman Ethan Alliot (Sheridan, Wy.) also put up a new PR in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:40.32.
 
Senior Konnor Bye (Liberty Hill, Texas) posted two second-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump with leaps of 6.35m (20' 10") and 13.09m (42' 11.5") while finishing sixth in the high jump with a mark of 1.60m (5' 3"). Junior Nathan Fields (Westminster, Md.) finished second in the shot put with a toss of 13.24m (43' 5.25") while posting a new career best in the hammer throw with a 39.30m (128' 11") mark, which was good for third in the event.
 
Sophomore Rhett Robinson (Douglas, Ga.) took second in the Javelin with a personal best toss of 42.74m (140' 3").
