NEW HAVEN, CONN. (April 13, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's track and field put together an outstanding showing at the Wilton Wright Invitational hosted by Southern Connecticut St. on Saturday. Seniors Konnor Bye (Liberty Hill, Texas) and Alex Burita (Annandale, Va.) led the way for the Blue and Gray with a pair of top five finishes. Fellow senior Michael Lyon (Jacksonville, Fla.) and freshman Tommy Tan (Norfolk, Va.) joined six other Kings Point runners with top 10 performances.

Bye picked his second straight first-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 13.35m (43' 9.75") and put up a 6.86m (22' 06.25") mark in the long jump for a third-place finish.
 
Kings Point dominated the 3000 meter steeplechase with seven top ten finishes. Burita was the Mariner's fastest runner, finishing second in 10:59.24. Freshman Ethan Alliot (Sheridan, Wy.) and junior Elijah Ramthun (Bozrah, Conn.) followed behind in fourth and fifth with times of 11:08.45 and 11:21.05. Sophomore Pierce Murray (Meridian, Idaho), junior Karsten Peters (Cromwell, Conn.), freshman Rory McWeeney (Portland, Ore.), and fellow junior Kyle Mancini (Norwalk, Conn.) all closed out the top ten in seventh, eighth, ninth, and 10th in 11:56.24, 12:36.23, 13:15.81, and 13:29.68. Burita also finished 10th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08.81.
 
The Mariners also picked up two top ten finishes in the 1500 meters, with Lyon crossing the finish line in ninth with a time of 4:32.07 while Ramthun followed behind in 10th in 4:33.76. Tan registered a sixth-place finish in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:02.03.
 
Merchant Marine will lace it up next Saturday, April 19, at the Rider Invite in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
