Men’s Track & Field Produces Five Top-10 Finishes At West Point Open

WEST POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 11, 2025) – The USMMA men's track & field team competed at the West Point Open hosted by Army on Saturday. The Mariners had a total of five top-10 finishes at the meet and a good number of personal bests throughout the day.
 
Meet Links Freshman Holden Collier (Mount Vernon, Wash.) had the highest finish of the day, coming in seventh place in the 400m with a time of 54.95. Classmate Colin Robertson (Milford, Mich.) was right behind in eighth in 54.96.
 
Sophomore William Gornell (Southlake, Texas) recorded a pair of eighth-place finishes in the 60m (7.23) and the 200m (23.60).
 
Freshman John Piangozza (Smithtown, N.Y.) came in 10th place in the 3000m with a time of 11:14.87.
 
The following Mariners produced personal bests on Saturday:
  • Collier in the 60m (7.74) and the 400m (54.95)
  • Robertson in the 400m (54.96)
  • Freshman Rory McWeeney (Portland, Ore.) in the 3000m (11:19.61)
  • Freshman Nicholas Troiano (Burlington Flats, N.Y.) in the weight throw (9.49m – 31' 1.75")
 
Up next, the Mariners will compete in the Ramapo Opener next Friday, Jan. 17. Action is set to get underway at 10 a.m. at the Armory in Manhattan.
