PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 15, 2025) – The USMMA wrestling team concluded action at the 2025 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championship Meet up at the Amica Mutual Pavilion on Saturday. Sophomore Tyler Withers (Gettysburg, Pa.) competed three times and finished in sixth place in the 184-pound bracket.

Withers started the day in the championship semifinals against the bracket's #3 seed Brandt Bombard of Augsburg. Bombard came out on top with an 11-2 major decision, knocking Withers to the consolation ("wrestlebacks") bracket.

The sophomore had to face the top seed in the bracket, Jack Ryan of SUNY Oneonta, in the consolation semifinals with a chance to move on to the third-place bout. It was Ryan who was victorious, however, as he earned an 8-0 major decision over Withers.

Withers then drew the #2 seed Kasey Ross of Wartburg in the fifth-place match, which was a rematch of Friday's second round bout (where Withers upset Ross to earn All-America honors). In the pair's second tango, however, it was Ross narrowly triumphing 6-5 thanks to the riding time point at the end of three periods.

Through the third session early on Saturday, the Mariners are in 24th place out of the 61 teams represented at NCAAs. Final team scores will be known after Saturday's evening session.

Withers and senior Reid Garrison (Broadway, Va.) became the first pair of Mariners to qualify for NCAAs together in the same season since 2019-20 when Joshua Glantzman '20 and Dominick Esposito '22 did so, although that duo was unable to compete at Nationals due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
