Both of Withers' victories in the 184-pound bracket came via falls, as he toppled Gavin Kohel of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the opening round at 3:22 before defeating Gabe Monroe of arch-rival Coast Guard in the second round with a "buzzer-beating" pin in 3:00 flat.
Â
Withers' next bout will be against the second-seed in the bracket Kasey Ross of Wartburg in the third round during the evening session.
Â
In the 285-pound bracket, Garrison started his day with a pin at the end of the second period over Wabash's Titus Waters in 5:00 flat. He then triumphed over Evan Day of Castleton with an 8-0 major decision.
Â
Like Withers, Garrison has a matchup against the second-seed in his bracket, Ferrum's Rayshawn Dixon, up next in the third round later today.
Â
The second session begins at 5 p.m. (ET) this evening right back at the Amica Mutual Pavilion. All wrestlers who make it through Friday night are guaranteed a top-eight finish at Nationals and an All-American distinction.
