NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Oct. 25, 2024) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's cross country teams took part in Central Connecticut State University's Mini Meet at Stanley Quarter Park on Friday. The Mariners were the lone Division III team, as all other institutions that were on-site were from D1.

Senior Katherine Kerchner (Reading, Pa.) was the first Mariner to complete the 3K course of the "varsity" race, as she crossed the finish line in 10:59.5, which was better than numerous D1 runners. Sophomore Victoria Crofford (Fairfax, Va.) was the next to finish was a time of 11:27.0.
 
Sophomores Katie Bray (Trussville, Ala.) and Madison Monkevich (Gaithersburg, Md.) finished in back-to-back positions in 13:41.7 and 14:12.0, respectively.
 
The Skyline Championship Meet is up next on the schedule for USMMA, and that will take place next Sunday, Nov. 3, at Bethpage Polo at the Park in nearby Bethpage, N.Y. The women's 6K race is scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m.
