HOBOKEN, N.J. (Jan. 20, 2024) – The USMMA men's swimming team rounded out a perfect regular season on Saturday with a 168-89 victory over Stevens Institute of Technology at the DeBaun Aquatic Center. The Mariners now boast a 7-0 record in dual-meet action.

The USMMA won 12 of the 14 races on the afternoon, beginning with a dominant performance in the 200-yard medley relay. The USMMA 'A' team of sophomore
Teague Mayer (Boulder, Colo.), juniors
Dylan White (Burke, Va.) and
Joseph DeCarlo (Powder Springs, Ga.), and freshman
Barrie Snyder (Jacksonville, Fla.) posted a time of 1:35.67 to win the race by almost three seconds over the 'A' relay from Stevens. The Mariners' 'B' squad of senior
Heath Lewis (Chesapeake, Va.), and freshmen
Luke Dankert (Grand Island, Neb.),
Daniel Gibbs (Stafford, Va.) and
Douglas Bui (Ridgecrest, Calif.) earned crucial team points by completing the relay in a third-place time of 1:38.78.

The Mariners' dominance continued in the 1000-yard freestyle as USMMA swept the podium places. Freshman
Ryan Lester (Heath, Texas) won the race by posting a time of 10:01.23, with teammates
Oliver Austin (Essex, Vt.) (10:20.90) and
Andrew Turbyfill (Fredericksburg, Va.) (10:20.96) taking second and third places, respectively. Podium sweeps were the order of the day as the USMMA went 1-2-3 in two other races. Mayer won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 52.24 seconds with Lewis (54.85s) and
Ryan Chmielenski (Bristow, Va.) (55.04s) rounding out the top-three spots. Meanwhile, Dankert's time of 59.80 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke powered a Mariners' sweep in that event with White (1:01.18) taking second place by a whisker over teammate
Caden Latchaw (Queenstown, Md.).

Decarlo won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 1:59.40 with Gibbs posting a second place showing (2:00.61) while senior
Daniel Scherrer (Wellesley, Mass.) won the 50-free in a time of 21.45 seconds with Snyder (21.80s) taking runner-up honors. Scherrer and Snyder also went 1-2 in the 100-yard freestyle race with a winning time of 48.25 seconds posted by Scherrer to best Snyder's 48.71-second effort to claim second place.

Other wins on the day for the Mariners came in the 200-yard backstroke by Mayer (1:54.85, six seconds better than second-place), who also won the 200-yard IM in a time of 1:55.94 to defeat the second-place finisher by almost ten seconds; Dankert in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.26); Lester in the 500-free (4:53.82, seven-plus seconds faster than second-place); and Decarlo in the 100-yard butterfly (52.45 seconds).

The "Mariner of the Meet" award was presented to Lester, based on a team vote to an individual for their performance and contribution to the team.

The USMMA men's swimming and diving team will next travel up to Purchase College on Jan. 27 for the Skyline Conference Championship meet. The Mariners are looking to claim their seventh-consecutive Skyline crown along with a 25th-straight conference championship overall.
