Kov Sets Two Academy Diving Records As Five NCAA Diving Cuts Attained In Mariners’ 144-97 Home Win Over Adelphi

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec.  11, 2025) – The USMMA men's swimming & diving team defeated nearby Division II opponent Adelphi University, 144-97, at home on Thursday night at the Sue Petersen Lubow Pool. The victory keeps the Mariners' record perfect at 7-0, while the Panthers fall to 4-2 in defeat.
 
Meet Link The Mariners won seven events on the night, but none bigger than a pair of academy records falling thanks to freshman diver Carter Kov (Goodyear, Ariz.). He attained scores of 379.88 in the three-meter dive and then 374.03 in the one-meter event to claim Kings Point's new standard in both disciplines (six-dive).
 
Kov along with senior Thomas Cable (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) both hit NCAA qualifying marks on both boards, as Cable scored a 361.65 on the three-meter dive and a 325.50 on the one-meter event. Additionally, junior Charlie Williams (Vienna, Va.) claimed his first NCAA qualifying mark of the season on the one-meter board with a score of 299.10.
 
Listed below are the rest of the Mariners' five victories on the night. 
  • Sophomore Brendan Baser (Cary, Ill.) won the 1000 free in 10:13.97, a season-best time by five seconds
  • Freshman Keanne Hernandez (Deer Park, N.Y.) won the 100 butterfly in 51.74.
  • Sophomore Max Fedorenko (Chicago, Ill.) won the 100 freestyle in 47.26.
  • Junior Ryan Lester () won the 500 freestyle in 4:53.69.
  • And the 200 free relay team of freshman Wyatt Rice (Salem, N.H.), senior Matthew Wachendorfer (Greensboro, N.C.), Lester, and sophomore John Frank (Highland, Md.) won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:27.53. 
Three other Mariners earned season-best times throughout the night, as senior Teague Mayer (Boulder, Colo.) swam a 52.67 in the 100 back and a 1:58.26 in the 200 individual medley (a season-best by 1.5 seconds), Rice swam a 54.11 in the 100 back (a season-best by one second) and a 1:48.41 in the 200 free, and Hernandez touched in 22.02 in the 50 free.
 
The "Mariner of the Meet" honors, awarded based on a team vote to an individual for their performance and contribution to the team, went to Hernandez for the swimmers and Kov for all of the divers.
 
USMMA is off from competition for the winter break and will return to action in the New Year when they travel up to New Haven, Conn., on Friday, Jan. 9, to face Division II Southern Connecticut beginning at 6 p.m.
