SCRANTON, Pa. (Jan. 14, 2024) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's swimming & diving team extended its long dual meet win-streak on Sunday with a convincing 183-60 road win over former Landmark Conference opponent Scranton. The Mariners, who broke six pool records on the day, improved to 5-0 on the season, while the Royals fell to 7-3 in defeat.

Sophomore
Teague Mayer (Boulder, Colo.) won all three events he competed in with Scranton pool record times. He touched first in the 200 individual medley (1:55.75) and the 100 backstroke (51.78), and also led off the 400 medley relay team, which also featured juniors
Dylan White (Burke, Va.) and
Joseph DeCarlo (Powder Springs, Ga.) and freshman
Barrie Snyder (Jacksonville, Fla.), that started the meet with a win in 3:31.00.

Other pool records to fall were achieved by freshman
Ryan Lester (Heath, Texas) in the 1000 freestyle in 9:53.98, a season-best by 10 seconds, and by the 200 freestyle relay team of senior
Daniel Scherrer (Wellesley, Mass.), Snyder, senior
Heath Lewis (Chesapeake, Va.) and senior
James Todd (Columbia, S.C.) in 1:26.19. DeCarlo tied the pool record in the 100 fly in 100 fly after touching first in 51.82.

Sophomore diver
Thomas Cable (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) won both the one-meter and three-meter diving competitions. He achieved yet another NCAA cut in the one-meter with a score of 278.10, while claiming first in the three-meter with a score of 281.45.

Other individual wins were achieved by the following:Â
- Sophomore Matthew Wachendorfer (Greensboro, N.C.) in the 200 free (1:47.53)
- Snyder in the 50 free (21.80)
- Scherrer in the 100 free (47.69)
- and freshman Luke Dankert (Grand Island, Neb.) in the 100 breaststroke (59.88)Â
Lester was named the "Mariner of the Meet," awarded based on a team vote to an individual for their performance and contribution to the team. Freshman
Daniel Rush (Toms River, N.J.) earned the honor for the divers.
