KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 11, 2024) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's swimming & diving team cruised past visiting Skyline Conference opponent Purchase College, 135-49, on Thursday night at the Sue Petersen Lubow Pool. The victory improved the Mariners' record to 3-0 (3-0 Skyline), while the Panthers' loss dropped them to 2-6 (2-2 Skyline).

Three divers all hit qualifying marks on both boards, sophomore
Thomas Cable (Litchfield Park, Ariz.), senior
Devin Dyer (Brandon, Fla.) and junior
Brendan Griffiths (Easton, Pa.). For Dyer, the cut in the 1M was his second of the season and officially qualified him for the NCAA Regional Diving Championships later this year.

Ethan Williams (Huntingtown, Md.) and freshman
Daniel Gibbs (Stafford, Va.).

- The 200 medley relay team of senior Heath Lewis (Chesapeake, Va.), freshman Douglas Bui (Ridgecrest, Calif.), sophomore Diego Corredor (Fort Myers, Fla.) and junior Evan Davis (Bethany Beach, Del.) in 1:40.17.
- Freshman Luke Frank (Highland, Md.) in the 1000 freestyle with his first collegiate win in 10:46.65 (exhibition)
- Williams in the 200 free in 1:49.45 (a season-best time by 2.5 seconds)
- Junior Joseph DeCarlo (Powder Springs, Ga.) in the 50 free in 22.56 (exhibition – a season-best time)
- Freshman Daniel Gibbs (Stafford, Va.) in the 200 individual medley in 2:02.54
- Cable in the one-meter dive with a score of 341.03
- Freshman Luke Dankert (Grand Island, Neb.) in the 100 butterfly in 55.92
- Sophomore Matthew Wachendorfer (Greensboro, N.C.) in the 100 free in 48.77
- Gibbs in the 100 backstroke in 55.36
- Williams in the 500 free in 5:09.51
- Cable in the three-meter dive with a score of 322.80
- Sophomore Teague Mayer (Boulder, Colo.) in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.76
- and the 200 free relay team of junior Cal Frame (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.), Lewis, freshman Jacob Socarras (Winter Springs, Fla.) and Todd in 1:29.29Â
Gibbs was named the "Mariner of the Meet," awarded based on a team vote to an individual for their performance and contribution to the team. Freshman
Daniel Rush (Toms River, N.J.) earned the honor for the divers.

The Mariners return to action on Saturday, Jan. 13, with a home dual meet against arch-rival Coast Guard beginning at 1 p.m. Prior to the meet, the men's swim & dive program will pay tribute to its nine graduating seniors with a special Senior Day ceremony.
