KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 9, 2023) – The USMMA men's swimming & diving team closed out the calendar year with a Skyline tri-meet sweep over Sarah Lawrence (206-6) and rival SUNY Maritime (197-32) on Saturday inside the Sue Petersen Lubow Pool. The Mariners open their dual-meet schedule with a 2-0 record.
Merchant Marine claimed victory in all but one event on the day, which was highlighted by a total of five NCAA cuts attained by Mariner divers.

Junior diver
Brendan Griffiths (Easton, Pa.) has
now officially qualified for the NCAA Diving Regional Championships later this year as he achieved two NCAA qualifying scores of 310.65 in the three-meter dive, as well as 295.00 in the one-meter, both scores were good for second place in the events.
Sophomore
Thomas Cable (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) also hit two NCAA marks, as he placed first in both the three-meter dive (312.53) and the one-meter dive (328.35), while senior
Devin Dyer (Brandon, Fla.) attained his first NCAA qualifying score of the season on the one-meter board with a score of 293.33.
In the lanes, senior
Oliver Austin (Essex, Vt.) led the way with individual victories in both of the distance events – the 1000 freestyle in 10:26.28 and the 500 free in 4:59.48.

- The 200 medley relay team of senior Daniel Scherrer (Wellesley, Mass.), freshman Barrie Snyder (Jacksonville, Fla.), sophomore Teague Mayer (Boulder, Colo.) and freshman Luke Dankert (Grand Island, Neb.) in 1:39.37
- Sophomore Ryan Chmielenski (Bristow, Va.) in the 200 free in 1:48.52
- Junior Cal Frame (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) in the 50 free in 22.81
- Sophomore Matthew Wachendorfer (Greensboro, N.C.) in the 200 individual medley in 2:01.42
- Senior Ethan Williams (Huntingtown, Md.) in the 100 butterfly in 55.01
- Mayer in the 100 free in 48.84
- Scherrer in the 100 backstroke in 54.65
- And the 200 free relay team of Wachendorfer, Snyder, senior James Todd (Columbia, S.C.) and Dankert in 1:29.39
Austin was named the "Mariner of the Meet," awarded based on a team vote to an individual for their performance and contribution to the team. Junior
Michael Brent (Fort Myers, Fla.) earned the honor for the divers.
