KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 14, 2026) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's tennis team earned a 7-0 non-conference victory over Brooklyn College on Tuesday afternoon at the Brooks Stadium Courts. The Mariners improved to 6-3 overall on the season.

Clay Wilson (Fort Mill, S.C.) and freshman
Travis Filer (Conroe, Texas) opened play with a 6-3 win at #3, before junior
Alex Lewis (Williamsburg, Va.) and sophomore
Aaron Zhao (Temple City, Calif.) followed with a 6-2 victory at #2. Sophomore
Fredrich Buquel (Mission, Texas) and junior
Brent Mathews (Falls Church, Va.) completed doubles action with a 6-2 win at the top flight.

In singles play, USMMA secured straight-set wins across the lineup. Lewis was first to finish with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #6, and freshman
Zach Diep (Oxnard, Calif.) followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #5. Zhao clinched the team win with a 6-1, 6-0 decision at #3.

Buquel earned a 6-2, 6-3 result at #2 and freshman
Keegan Dutton (Temple, Texas) added a 6-3, 6-2 victory at #4. Mathews closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the top flight.

The Mariners return to action on Sunday, April 19, when they travel to Yeshiva for a Skyline Conference match scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
