BROOKLYN, N.Y. (April 21, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's tennis made it four-straight victories with a 5-2 win over Brooklyn College on Monday afternoon at the Bulldog's Roosevelt Tennis Courts. The Mariners improve to 6-3, while Brooklyn falls to 5-7.

The sophomore doubles team of
Brent Mathews (Falls Church, Va.) and
Josh Staroselskiy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) earned the only win of the opening part of the match with a 6-1 victory at #2. The Bulldogs claimed wins at #1 and #3 to earn the doubles point.

Patrick Novotny (Fort Worth, Texas) was the first Mariner to finish his singles match, claiming a 6-1, 6-0 victory. That was followed by senior
RJ Novak (Yorktown, Va.) winning 6-1, 6-1 at #2 and then classmate
Connor McQuade (Jacksonville, Fla.) earning his own 6-1, 6-1 W at #5.

Freshman
Fredrich Buquel (Mission, Texas) clinched the match for Merchant Marine with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph at #4 before Brooklyn won its second match in a marathon three-setter at #1 and Staroselskiy closed out the action with 6-1, 6-0 win at #6.

The Mariners will host #73 Farmingdale State on Wednesday, April 23, beginning at 4 p.m. at the Brooks Stadium Courts.
