Women’s Lacrosse Downs Wellesley On Spring Break Trip, 21-2

WELLESLEY, Mass. (March 10, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's lacrosse team defeated Wellesley College on the road, 21-2, on Monday afternoon up at the Blue's Butler Stadium about a half hour outside of Boston. The victory was the Mariners' second-straight and improved their record to 2-1, while Wellesley fell to 1-3 in defeat.
 
Game Link Senior Lauren Jablonowski (Levittown, N.Y.) and sophomore Leslie Wysong (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) led the Kings Point offense with eight points each, as the both scored five goals and dished out three assists. Wysong also secured three draw controls and caused one turnover and Jablonowski picked up two ground balls.
 
Sophomore Grace Picozzi (Collegeville, Pa.) added five points on two goals and three assists, while also registering a game-high seven draw controls to go along with three GBs. Freshman Reese Ripley (Denver, Colo.) recorded her first-career hat-trick and finished with four points as she also contributed with an assist. Three other Mariners found the back of the net two times apiece – senior Gianna Russo (Wake Forest, N.C.) and freshmen Amber Fields (St. Augustine, Fla.) and Lana Hayes (Toms River, N.J.).
 
Junior defender Nicole Nagengast (Seaford, N.Y.) led all players on the afternoon with four ground balls and a pair of plebes tied for the game-high with two caused turnovers each, Juliet Trouse (Riverdale, N.J.) and Meghan Shippos (Bow, N.H.). Both Trouse and Shippos also had two GBs each.
 
Junior goalie Karianna Eagle (Little Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) made seven saves to earn the victory between the pipes and also picked up three ground balls on the day.
 
Junior Finley Tipton scored the first goal for the Blue in the opening quarter that actually made it a 2-1 game in favor of KP, but the Mariners scored the next 15 goals to run away with the game. Sophomore Mallory Kennison added a marker late in the third quarter that made the score 17-2. The Blue and Gray then tallied four goals in the final quarter to close out the scoring.
 
USMMA now goes into a 12-day break from competition and returns to action on Saturday, March 22, when they host Marywood University for a noon opening draw at Brooks Stadium.
