KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Dec. 9, 2025) – On Tuesday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's basketball team picked up a wire-to-wire victory over Skyline Conference opponent Purchase College in the friendly confines of the Liebertz Gymnasium. The win improved the Mariners' record to 7-3 (4-1 Skyline), while the Panthers fell to 5-4 (4-1 Skyline) in defeat.

Hannah Ramsden (Port Aransas, Texas) scored a career-high 31 points on 11-of-17 shooting with four 3-pointers to go along with four steals. Two other Mariners scored in double-figures with junior
Emily Grasseler (Millbrook, N.Y.) picking up yet another double-double with 19 points and a game-high 14 rebounds and seven steals as well as three assists and two blocks and sophomore
Breanna Sommers (Casa Grande, Ariz.) chipping in with 11 points, five boards and a game-high four assists.

Cevyn Crutcher (Huntsville, Ala.) brought down a career-high 12 rebounds and contributed offensively with six points and three helpers.
Merchant Marine shot 46.9 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from three while controlling the glass with a 52–27 rebounding advantage, including 21 offensive boards that contributed to 16 second-chance points. Purchase finished at 33.3 percent overall and 25.0 percent from beyond the arc and relied heavily on points off turnovers, holding a 28-20 edge there. The Mariners also outscored Purchase 38-30 in the paint, matched them in fast-break scoring, and held the lead for more than 38 minutes.
Kings Point set the tone early behind Grasseler, who scored the game's first points and added a pair of early jumpers as the Mariners built a 7-2 lead. Sommers then knocked down a three-pointer to push the margin to double digits at 12-2 before Purchase answered with a small run to trim it to 14-9. Ramsden closed the first quarter with a three from the right side to restore control and send Merchant Marine into the break up 17-9.
In the second quarter, Purchase scored first, but Grasseler quickly responded with a layup and then teamed with Ramsden to stretch the lead into double figures once again. Ramsden hit a pair of jumpers to make it 25-14, and Grasseler followed with back-to-back drives before Sommers finished a fast-break layup as the advantage ballooned to 31-14. Sydney Brown (Northville, Mich.) knocked down a jumper in the final seconds of the half, giving the Mariners a 39-22 cushion at the intermission.
Ramsden's three-pointer and transition layup early in the third quarter, combined with inside baskets from Grasseler and Sommers, pushed the margin past 20 as Merchant Marine stayed in front 48-26 and then 50-26 after a pull-up from Crutcher. Ramsden hit another three and later converted three free throws late in the frame to keep the lead at 20 entering the fourth, where she again sparked the attack with a run-out layup and another three as the Mariners kept Purchase at arm's length. Tatum Carney (Fairfax, Va.) added late buckets, and Merchant Marine comfortably managed the final minutes to close out a 73-52 home win.
Tianna Patten led Purchase with 13 points off the bench, while Charlee Neb added 9 points with a team-high five steals. Ashley Santiago was the top rebounder with six boards, and Purchase's bench contributed significant scoring production overall.
The Mariners return to action this coming Saturday, Dec. 13, when they host Skyline opponent Mount St. Vincent at 12-noon.
