YORK, Pa. (Dec. 6, 2025) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy wrestling team had four Mariners place in the top-six in their respective brackets en route to an eighth-place team finish at the two-day New Standard Invitational this weekend hosted by York College (Pa.).

Junior
Matthew Ferrucci (Killingworth, Conn.) placed fourth in the 174-pound bracket, as he produced a 6-2 record. After dropping his very first bout, Ferrucci battled through the wrestlebacks with six-straight victories, including two pins and two technical falls, to reach the third-place match, where he lost via a tech fall to take fourth.
Three other Mariners all came in fifth place – junior
Matthew Trinidad (Mesa, Ariz.) at 157, freshman
Viviano Gutierrez (La Habra, Calif.) at 165 and classmate
Andrew Huesgen (Shillington, Pa.) at 174.
Trinidad went 5-2 with two technical falls and a major decision, Gutierrez had a 3-2 record with a pin and two majors and Huesgen earned two tech falls during his 4-2 day.
The Mariners return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 10, when they travel up to New London, Conn., to face arch-rival #15 Coast Guard. The first bout is set to begin at 7 p.m. Billard Hall.
