OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Nov. 19, 2025) – All 10 players contributed offensively as the USMMA women's basketball team defeated Old Westbury in its Skyline opener on Wednesday night, 79-37, at the Panthers' Clark Athletic Center. The victory improved the Mariners' record to 2-1 (1-0 Skyline), while OW fell to 1-1 (0-1 Skyline) in defeat.

A trio of Mariners scored a game-high 17 points each – senior
Hannah Ramsden (Port Aransas, Texas), junior
Emily Grasseler (Millbrook, N.Y.) and sophomore
Carolae Barton (Waldorf, Md.). Grasseler also brought down a game-best 13 rebounds for a double-double, while Barton added eight boards and three blocks and Ramsden nailed three 3-pointers early and produced a game-best four steals.
The Mariners opened the game with multiple early runs, as Ramsden set the tone with her three 3-pointers coming in the first five minutes to establish a quick double-digit lead. Grasseler, Barton, and sophomore
Breanna Sommers (Casa Grande, Ariz.) added scoring inside and in transition as Merchant Marine forced turnovers and built a 26–9 advantage after the first quarter. Sommers finished with four points and six boards.
USMMA maintained control throughout the second quarter, getting steady scoring from Barton and freshman
Natalie Doan (Mount Dora, Fla.), while continuing to force turnovers and limit Old Westbury to single-shot possessions. Ramsden added a late transition layup as the Mariners kept the margin in double digits, the lead eventually reaching 20 points going into the halftime break.
The Blue & Gray continued to pull away throughout the second half, opening the third quarter with baskets from Ramsden, Grasseler, and Barton to extend the margin well beyond 20 points. The Mariners controlled the pace on both ends, adding transition layups, converting second-chance opportunities, and getting perimeter scoring from junior
Sydney Brown (Northville, Mich.) in the fourth as the lead grew steadily, ultimately pushing the game far out of reach.
USMMA shot 47.8 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from three while holding Old Westbury to 30 percent overall and just 2-of-8 from beyond the arc. The Mariners controlled the glass with a 53–18 rebounding advantage and turned 21 offensive boards into 18 second-chance points. USMMA also led in points in the paint (32–14), points off turnovers (23–10), and bench scoring (19–12), building a lead that reached 42 points in the final minute.
Old Westbury was led by Kasey Coppola, who drained a team-best 13 points, while Brianna Belizaire added eight. Makaylah Frazier tied the game-high with four assists on the evening.
The Mariners return to action this Saturday, Nov. 22, with a Skyline showdown at home with St. Joseph's-Brooklyn beginning at 12-noon at the Liebertz Gymnasium.
