KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 16, 2025) - The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy wrestling team hosted the three-round Metro Duals Saturday afternoon at Liebertz Gymnasium. The Mariners took their first match of the day in dominant fashion, 58-0 over Hunter, then fell 44-8 to NYU before bouncing back with a thrilling 29-28 comeback against Southern Maine in their third match. The Blue and Gray are 2-1 overall on the season.

Four Mariner wrestlers won multiple bouts on the day, with sophomore
Logan Weaver (Suwanee, Ga.)Â posting a 3-0 record in the 157-weight class to lead USMMA with two victories coming via tech falls and another by a major decision. Sophomore
Porter Gresko (Sparks, Nev.) and freshmen
Jacob Wilson (Ebensburg, Pa.) and
Andrew Huesgen (Shillington, Pa.) were all also undefeated at the Dual, going 2-0 at the 165, 174, and 184.
In their opening match, Merchant Marine won all 10 of their bouts, as freshmen Cayden Farver (Manchester, Md.) and sophomore Lucas Maneckshaw (Maurepas, La.) both recorded falls at 125 and 141 to stretch the lead to 18-0. Weaver and classmate Jacob Brockey (Syosset, N.Y.) both registered tech falls at 157 and 165 to increase their advantage to 34-0 before fellow sophomores Jonathan Harms (Niantic, Conn.) and Gresko posted falls at 184 and 285 in two of the Mariners' final matches in the opening round to lead them to a dominant 58-0 victory.
Against the Violets, the Mariners got victories at 157 and 165 from Weaver and Wilson via major decisions 10-2 and 9-2.
In the Blue and Gray's final match, Southern Maine took the first four matches to jump out of the gate to a 21-0 advantage. Kings Point went on a tear, winning six straight matches as Weaver won via a tech fall, Wilson grabbed a 13-4 major decision at 165, Huesgen took his match via a tech fall at 174, then Gresko recorded a pin at 184, and sophomore Alexander Soto (Fort Myers, Fla.) won via a 8-6 decision at 197 to put USMMA in front 23-21. Sophomore Maxwell Corral (Oak Forest, Ill.) helped the Mariners complete the 29-21 comeback, jumping up a weight class and grabbing a pin at 2:12 of the first period at 285.
Merchant Marine returns to competition at the NYS Collegiate Championships on Saturday, Nov. 22, hosted by Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, N.Y.
