KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 8, 2024) – On Sunday, the USMMA women's volleyball team traveled up to the capital of Connecticut for a tri-match at the University of Hartford. After dropping a nail-biting five-set match to Western Connecticut State in the opener, the Mariners rebounded to defeat the host Hawks, 3-1, to earn a split on the day and move their record to 3-1 to start the season.

In the first match, sophomore
Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) recorded 35 digs to go along with seven service aces, while freshman
Sophia Murray (Conroe, Texas) led the Mariners with 17 kills and fellow plebe
Sydney Douglas (Herndon, Va.) nearly recorded a triple-double with 11 kills, 21 digs and nine aces. Freshman
Maddie Mayer (Centennial, Colo.) had nine kills and a match-high five blocks.

Sophomore
Alexa Tipps (Palmdale, Calif.) and freshman
Kylie Creech (Osceola, Ind.) split the setting duties, with Tipps registering 23 assists and Creech dishing out 17.

Against Hartford, Mayer put down 10 kills for her first double-digit kill match of the season while hitting at a .474 clip. Murray added nine kills and nine digs, while Creech fad a double-double with 27 assists and 12 digs. Schatzman led all players in the match with 18 digs and freshman
Jenny Dyke (Grand Rapids, Mich.) recorded a career-best five blocks.

The Mariners next compete on Tuesday night, Sept. 10, when they travel to face arch-rival Coast Guard. Opening serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Bears' Roland Hall Gymnasium.
