NEW LONDON, Conn. (Sept. 10, 2024) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team lost in straight-sets to arch-rival Coast Guard on Tuesday night, 25-20, 25-10, 25-18, at the Bears' Roland Hall Gymnasium. The setback drops the Mariners' record to 3-2, while CGA improves to 5-3.

Virginia Robert (Lynchburg, Va.) led the USMMA offense with eight kills on a .250 hitting percentage. Freshmen
Sophia Murray (Conroe, Texas) and
Maddie Mayer (Centennial, Colo.) added six and five kills respectively. Mayer also had a team-best three blocks on the night.

Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) picked up 23 digs and freshman
Kylie Creech (Osceola, Ind.) dished out a team-high 17 assists.

As a team, the Mariners hit just .047 with 28 kills over the three sets compared to the Bears' .248 hitting percentage with 40 kills.

For the Bears, junior Allie Wildsmith led all players in the match with 15 kills and five blocks. Sophomore setter Sophia Rosenberg recorded 25 assists and senior libero Kaela France had a 30-dig performance.

Up next, Merchant Marine will take part in a tri-match this coming Saturday, Sept. 14, up at Curry College. They will take on Dean at 1 p.m. and the host Colonels at 3 p.m.
