BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Sept. 4, 2024) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team took down non-conference foe Brooklyn College, 3-0, on Wednesday night to improve to 2-0 to start the season. The 25-10, 25-16, 25-20 setback dropped the Bulldogs to 1-1 on the year.

Kylie Creech (Osceola, Ind.) recorded a double-double with 13 assists and 12 digs, while also hitting at a perfect 5-for-5 clip and adding two service aces.

Seniors
Elizabeth Kay (Charleston, W.Va.) and
Virginia Robert (Lynchburg, Va.) tied for the match-high with eight kills each, freshman
Sophia Murray (Conroe, Texas) added seven kills, 12 digs and two aces and junior libero
Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) led all players on the night with 20 digs. Freshman
Jenny Dyke (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was stellar at the net with a team-best four blocks (three solo and one assisted).

As a team, the Mariners hit at a .200 percentage, while forcing Brooklyn into the negative with a -.075 clip.

The Bulldogs were led by senior Aleah Rafat, who put down eight kills and picked up a team-best 12 digs. Junior setter Amra Mulic dished out 13 assists.

The Mariners hit the road once again this weekend when they travel up to the University of Hartford on Sunday, Sept. 8, for a tri-match against Western Connecticut State (1 p.m.) and the host Hawks (4 p.m.)
