NEW LONDON, Conn. (Sept. 3, 2024) – The USMMA men's soccer team fell behind 2-0 early on the road at nationally ranked Connecticut College on Tuesday night, before the #8 Camels closed out a 3-0 home win with an insurance tally in the second half. The defeat drops the Mariners' record to 1-1, while Conn. College opens the season 1-0.

The Camels scored two quick goals in the sixth minute and the 10th minute and went on to out-shoot the Mariners, 9-2 in the opening 45 minutes. Sophomore keeper Ethan Howell (Alexandria, Va.) made three saves in the first half.
 
Shots were an even 6-6 in the second half, however Merchant Marine was only able to get two attempts on net, which were turned aside by senior keeper Peter Silvester. The Camels closed out the scoring in the 82nd minute. Silvester earned the shutout between the pipes.
 
Howell finished with four saves on the night. Juniors John Germain (Cornwall, N.Y.) and Drew Boukidis (Charlotte, N.C.) had USMMA's two shots on goal late in the second half.
 
The Mariners are right back in action tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, Sept. 5, with a road game against Hunter College (0-2). Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Randall's Island Field #70.
