KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 21, 2024) – The USMMA women's volleyball team won its home match over non-conference opponent John Jay College in straight sets on Saturday morning, 25-15, 25-23, 25-10, to improve its record to 6-3 on the season, while the visiting Bloodhounds fall to 7-3 in defeat.

A trio of freshman led the way for the Mariners, as
Sophia Murray (Conroe, Texas) had a match-high nine kills to go along with eight digs,
Sydney Douglas (Herndon, Va.) recorded seven kills, eight digs and four aces and
Maddie Mayer (Centennial, Colo.) contributed seven kills and a match-best five blocks.

Junior libero
Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) led all players in the game with 17 digs and six service aces, while freshman setter
Kylie Creech (Osceola, Ind.) dished out 18 assists and picked up seven digs. Freshman
Jenny Dyke (Grand Rapids, Mich.) chipped in with five kills on a team-best .357 hitting, to go along with four blocks.

Merchant Marine won the first set, 25-15, but the Bloodhounds made it interesting in the second set. With the Mariners with set-point, up 24-19, the visitors rattled off four-straight points to make it a one-point 24-23. However a kill by Murray secured the set victory to put USMMA ahead 2-0 in the match.

For John Jay, junior Josanne Lewis led the way offensively with seven kills, while senior Meghan Smith had a match-high 21 assists and classmate Reilly Catan picked up 16 digs.

The Mariners return to action on Wednesday night, Sept. 25, when the host former Landmark Conference foe Drew University. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the Liebertz Gymnasium.
