KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Aug. 30, 2024) – Four different players found the back of the net as the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team opened its 2024 campaign with a 4-1 triumph against Five Towns College in front of 1,100 fans on Parents Weekend at Tomb Field.
Senior
Arthur Dozier (Southampton, N.J.) and freshman
Colin Robertson (Milford, Mich.) each had one goal and one assist for USMMA (1-0). Freshman
Andrew Campbell (Severna Park, Md.) and sophomore
Andrew Jung (Fairfax, Va.) added a goal apiece, while sophomore
Jacob Laubhan (Golden, Colo.) tallied four saves. Jose Garcia had eight saves for Five Towns (0-1).

USMMA wasted no time getting on the board as Campbell knocked home a rebound to make it a 1-0 game in just the 4th minute of action. Campbell nearly doubled the lead in the 8th minute, but his attempt connected with the post.
The Mariners continued to attack, building up a 10-0 advantage in shots by the 13th minute. The Five Towns keeper, however, kept it a one-goal game with four saves.
The Sound finally registered its first shot in the 20th minute and made it count as Sebastian Cuenca leveled the score at 1-1.
USMMA grabbed the lead back via a penalty kick in the 33rd minute. After a trip in the box, Dozier stepped to the spot and tucked a shot into the upper right corner for a 2-1 lead.
The Mariners had three-consecutive looks to add to their lead in the 42nd minute only to see back-to-back Garcia saves followed by a team save that kept the game 2-1 at halftime.
A turnover created the next goal for USMMA in the 67th minute. Robertson stole possession along the sideline and found Jung, who made it 3-1 with a blast into the upper right.
USMMA extended its lead to 4-1 in the 86th minute as Robertson gave the Mariners its fourth different goal-scorer. Following a corner kick, Robertson surprised the keeper and tucked a 20-yard blast inside the near post.
USMMA next travels to New London, Conn., on Sept. 3 for a 7 p.m. contest against Connecticut College.
