Mariners Sail Past Mount St. Vincent On The Road, 21-2

BRONX, N.Y. (April 9, 2024) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team defeated Skyline Conference foe Mount St. Vincent, 21-2, on the road Tuesday night at the Dolphins' Marillac Field. With the win, the Mariners record goes to 6-4 (2-1 Skyline), while UMSV drops to 5-5 (1-1 Skyline) with the setback.

Game Link Freshman Owen Behr (Vestavia Hills, Ala.) led all players on the night with a career-high eight points on two goals and six assists. Two other Mariners recorded four points each, as sophomore Owen Barcus (Annapolis, Md.) found the back of the net four times and classmate Jack DeTommaso (Massapequa, N.Y.) scored three times and dished out one helper.

Junior Jack Collins (Memphis, Tenn.) and sophomores Kyle Hennelly (Dacula, Ga.) and William Badeer (Pittsburgh, Pa.) all finished the game with two goals and one assist and senior Sam Winkler (Moorestown, N.J.) added one tally and one assist.

Five other players found the back of the net on the night – senior Erich Diehl (Long Valley, N.J.), juniors Jack Meyer (Sandy, Utah) and Charlie Wahlin (Stafford, Va.) and freshmen Luke Holava (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Axel Flotten (Virginia Beach, Va.).

Defensively, senior Dom Mirack (Stevensville, Md.) caused a team-best two turnovers, while it was a pair of attackers – DeTommaso and Collins – who led the squad with three ground balls each.

In between the pipes, freshman Julian Garcia (Lakeway, Texas) earned the victory with four saves in three quarters of action.

For the Dolphins, senior Jacob Cochran had his hand in both tallies, scoring the second goal of the game and assisting on grad student Savion Williams' ice-breaking goal early in the first quarter. Grad student Mustapha Daffeh won 13-of-20 faceoffs and picked up eight ground balls. Sophomore goalie Mark Lulgjuraj made 13 saves in the losing effort.

Up next, the Mariners travel up to Newburgh, N.Y., this Sunday, April 14, to take on Skyline opponent Mount St. Mary. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Knights' Kaplan Field.
