KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 6, 2024) – Three players registered four goals and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's lacrosse team utilized a 12-6 first half to power its way to a 19-13 victory over Manhattanville on Saturday in the team's annual 142 Game at Brooks Stadium. The Mariners improved to 5-4 (1-1 Skyline) with the win, while the loss dropped the Valiants to 4-7 (0-1 Skyline).

Jack Collins (Memphis, Tenn.) had an incredible performance for USMMA with four goals and six assists to nab a ten-point day in the victory, just one point shy of his career-high. Sophomore
Owen Barcus (Annapolis, Md.) continued a torrid stretch of play with four goals and three assists to net seven points on the afternoon. Barcus's outing marked the fourth time this season, and the third consecutive game, in which he has scored at least four goals.
Meanwhile, sophomore
Jack DeTommaso (Massapequa, N.Y.) also contributed four goals and three assists for the Mariners. All three players each contributed two ground ball pickups in the win, as well. Sophomore midfielder
William Badeer (Pittsburgh, Pa.) contributed two goals and an assist for USMMA with first-year midfielder
Owen Behr (Vestavia Hills, Ala.) posting two assists and classmate
Owen Markel (The Woodlands, Texas) scoring a pair of goals for the Mariners in the win.
Six other players contributed a point in the victory, with goals coming from sophomore defender
Christian Meyers (Miller Place, N.Y.), senior defenseman
Maverick Geller (Hood River, Ore.), and rookie attackman
Luke Holava (Virginia Beach, Va.). Three Mariners –
Michael Emerick (Damascus, Md.),
Ryan Thorne (Selden, N.Y.), and
Charlie Wahlin (Stafford, Va.) – posted one assist apiece in the win. Geller added three ground balls with
Michael Hofstetter (Deer Park, N.Y.) also posting three ground ball pickups.
Senior
Mark Bredeck (Severna Park, Md.) led USMMA with four ground balls while junior
Chris Neuman (South Huntington, N.Y.) had three GBs and went 14-for-21 on face-offs. Three goalies saw action for USMMA in the win with freshman
Julian Garcia (Lakeway, Texas) earning the victory and registering one save. Sophomore
Tucker Swinerton (Weston, Fla.) had three saves for the Mariners and rookie
Joseph Montazella (Lyme, Conn.) stopped five shots in the final period of play.
Michael Swift led all players with seven goals while Nick Cornelia added two goals and three assists for the Valiants in the loss. Drew Palladino posted a three-point day with a goal and two assists as four other Manhattanville players registered a point. Joe Ulzheimer made eight saves in the cage for the visitors.
After Swift opened the scoring for the visitors in the game's first minute, USMMA scored seven of the next eight goals in the first quarter with DeTommaso nabbing an opening-quarter hat trick. Collins contributed two goals and two assists in the first period of play, while Barcus and Badeer each added a goal.
Collins would also lead a four-goal spurt in the second quarter that ended with Barcus adding consecutive tallies less than a minute apart in the second quarter, as USMMA led 12-6 at the halftime break.
The goals continued for the Mariners in the third quarter, with Merchant Marine scoring six-straight times in the period, including Geller's first marker of the season. Holava's first-career marker stopped a run of five-straight goals from the visitors and effectively iced the contest in the final quarter.
The Mariners continue Skyline Conference play on Tuesday night, April 9, on the road at the University of Mount St. Vincent. First face-off from the Riverdale section of the Bronx is set for 7 p.m. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on
