LA CROSSE, Wis. (March 15, 2024) – The 2023-24 USMMA wrestling season came to an end on Friday at the NCAA Division III National Championship Meet. Junior Reid Garrison (Broadway, Va.) represented Merchant Marine in the 285-pound heavyweight bracket one the first day of the two-day event inside the La Crosse Center in Wisconsin.

In Garrison's first matchup of the day during the afternoon session, he faced the eighth-seeded wrestler in the bracket, Robby Bates from North Central. Garrison was trailing just 1-0 at the end of the second period, but Bates had a pair of takedowns that sandwiched an escape in the third period, as the NC senior went on to claim the 7-1 victory after earning the extra point for riding time.
 
At the second session on Friday night, Garrison took on Johnson & Wales sophomore Adolfo Betancur in the first round of the "wrestlebacks" consolation bracket. Betancur came out on top with a first-period pin in 2:14, ending Garrison's very successful season.
