NEWBURGH, N.Y. (Nov. 2, 2024) – On Saturday, the USMMA women's volleyball team won both its contests in a tri-match hosted by Skyline opponent Mount St. Mary, defeating the host Knights in a conference showdown, 3-0, before downing the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, 3-1, in the second match. The victories improved the Mariners' record to 16-6 (7-2 Skyline) on the season.

Two major career milestones were achieved on the day, as junior libero
Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) reached 1,000 digs and sophomore setter
Alexa Tipps (Palmdale, Calif.) joined the 1,000 assist club.
The Mariners defeated the host Knights, 25-23, 25-7, 25-10. Senior
Elizabeth Kay (Charleston, W.Va.) led the way offensively for Merchant Marine with nine kills on .533 hitting, while three other players had eight kills apiece – senior
Virginia Robert (Lynchburg, Va.), sophomore
Erin Stillinger (Keller, Texas) and freshman
Sydney Douglas (Herndon, Va.). Robert added seven service aces and Douglas had five aces and 12 digs.
Freshman
Kylie Creech (Osceola, Ind.) dished out 20 assists, while Tipps contributed 11. Schatzman easily surpassed the four digs she needed for 1,000 in the first set, as she finished with 24 digs to lead all players.
In the second contest of the day, USMMA downed the Trailblazers of MCLA in four sets, 25-20, 18-25, 26-24, 25-19. Stillinger had 14 kills, while Douglas recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs to go along with five aces.
Creech contributed 19 assists, and Tipps, who needed five assists coming into the match to reach 1,000, got one more than that in the first set alone and finished with 18 assists in total. Robert picked up 10 digs and Schatzman had eight.
Freshman
Maddie Mayer (Centennial, Colo.) finished the day with eight total blocks (one solo and seven assisted) over the two matches.
