KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2024) – USMMA Volleyball honored its two seniors,
Elizabeth Kay (Charleston, W.Va.) and
Virginia Robert (Lynchburg, Va.) prior to the match, then quickly took down the Old Westbury Panthers in straight sets at Liebertz Gymnasium.

Freshman
Sydney Douglas (Herndon, Va.) led the match with nine kills on 15 swings (.467), to go along with seven digs and three blocks. Kay had six kills and two digs on her senior day, while Robert chipped in four kills, four aces, and eight digs. Freshman
Kylie Creech (Osceola, Ind.) led King's Point with 19 assists, and sophomore
Alexa Tipps (Palmdale, Calif.) had 10 more. Defensively, junior
Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) had 12 digs.

Merchant Marine opened the morning match with a 7-1 run, with Kay picking up a couple kills while Douglas and Mayer each had one themselves. The Panthers dragged themselves back into the match, trimming the KP lead to 11-9 at one point. But two more kills from Robert, and three service aces from Mayer put the Mariners up 18-10, before closing the set out 25-14.

The second set was one of USMMA's most dominant sets of the season. They started with a 12-2 stretch, and never looked back in a 25-7 win. Douglas had four kills in the set, and Kay had two herself.

Set three was much more competitive, with the two sides battling to an 8-8 tie in the first portion of the set. But after a service error from OW, the Marines clicked into high gear. They closed the day out with a 17-3 run, to secure a straight-set victory over the Panthers on Senior Day.

Next up for USMMA is a tri-match at Mount St. Mary College on Saturday, Nov. 2, where the Mariners will take on the host Knights at 11 a.m., followed by the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at 1 p.m., at the Kaplan Center in Newburgh, N.Y.
