(Sept. 20, 2023) – In a rematch of the 2022 Skyline Championship Finals, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team lost its conference-opener to Manhattanville in three sets Wednesday night up at the Valiants' Kennedy Gymnasium – 25-16, 25-21, 25-19. The defeat drops the Mariners' record to 2-5 (0-1 Skyline) on the season, while the Ville improves to 4-5 (1-0 Skyline) with the win.

Alexa Tipps (Palmdale, Calif.) nearly recorded a double-double with 18 assists and eight digs, while sophomore libero
Stephanie Schatzman (Virginia Beach, Va.) led the Mariners with 18 digs and three service aces. Senior
Meredith Buchanan (Kathleen, Ga.) registered six kills, while classmates
Amy Jones (Roscoe, Ill.) and
Brittany Breland (Bryan, Texas) were right behind with five each. Jones hit a team-best .400 on the night.
For the Valiants, grad student Vianca Vital almost had a triple-double, as she led all players with 26 assists and seven service aces, while also picking up 10 digs. Sophomore Loren Hernandez had a match-best 11 kills and also recorded 12 digs, while junior libero Grace Ballagas was unmatched in her 19 digs on the night.
The Mariners return to action with a home match next Tuesday, Sept. 26, against Skyline opponent St. Joseph's-Long Island beginning at 7 p.m. inside the Liebertz Gymnasium. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on
