ROCHESTER, N.Y. (May 25, 2023) – The USMMA women's track & field team has an individual national champion in its midst for the first time in 30 years as
Kira Porzio (Palo Cedro, Calif.) won the NCAA High Jump title on Thursday evening on the campus of St. John Fisher University.

Porzio joins Ana Maly (1993 Heptathlon) as the only female Mariners to climb the proverbial mountaintop, breaking her own Academy record yet again as well as the facility mark with a 1.72-meter height.
Â
While she shared the top spot with Wartburg's Breya Christopher and Tufts' Jaidyn Appel, she won the gold thanks to the tiebreaker in which she had fewer misses than her adversaries in the previous rounds.
Â
The 2023 Outdoor Championships was her third consecutive appearance and final competition at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, having scored an eighth-place allotment at February's Indoor Championships to earn her the title of USMMA's first female track and field All-American since Maly in the heptathlon as well.
